A Victory for Working Moms in NY

Blogged By Angela Jupp

The New York State Legislature recently passed a bill requiring employers to allow “nursing moms to express breast milk” while at work. What’s more, the bill, awaiting a signature from Governor Eliott Spitzer, will also require employers to make reasonable efforts to provide a private space for women to pump.

The passage of the bill is a true victory for working moms (who have commonly been subject to hostility for pumping in the workplace) and for the New York State Bar’s Sex & Law Committee that has been pushing for its passage.
