Tell Congress to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act immediately!
Join Senators Franken and Klobuchan and tell Congress to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act immediately!
20 years ago, Congress passed landmark legislation ensuring domestic violence is treated seriously. Now, the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act is being held up for political purposes.
Just seven years ago, this bill was reauthorized with overwhelming bi-partisan support. It passed the House 415-4 and with unanimous consent in the Senate. There's no reason that shouldn't be happening now.
We can't play political games with our children and communities.

Lisa Brockington Update–Case Dismissed!
We wish to take this opportunity to thank our former and current clients, as well as our families, colleagues, friends and loyal staff, for standing by us during the several months it took to firmly establish the truth. We can now put this unseemly and distractive episode behind us and focus once again on our mission of empowering working women and men in the quest for workplace fairness and equality.

Some people do dumb things and really don’t realize how dumb they are. I suspect that the owner of Cafe Royale falls into this classification. After listening to his phone conversations on a TV news story, my first thought was, “This guy is a pig.” But I did not know at that time that Cafe Royale was a topless bar. So, anybody who owns a topless bar is a pig on that basis alone, regardless of what ignorant words he might also speak. But again, I believe he probably doesn’t know he is a pig and should be forgiven. And while I do not condone his actions or his behavior as it relates to firing or demoting this pregnant woman; she must also consider the possibility that she is expecting a pig to treat her with respect which is nothing more than wishful thinking on her part. I can’t imagine that a woman gets any kind of respect working in a topless bar even if she is not topless. But this is just my opinion and has nothing to do with any knowledge or lack of knowledge I have in New York’s employment laws. While I believe Ms. Paviglinitti probably has a legitimate cause of action against the bar owner, I pray that she will find other employment in which she does not have to tolerate working in such conditions.
