This is Jack Tuckner, New York City-based employment lawyer. The question today is, am I entitled to severance when I’m terminated from my job? And the short answer, unfortunately is no, you’re not entitled to severance.
There’s no law requiring a company to pay you severance anywhere in the United States. Although if your position is being eliminated in a reduction in force where you’re not being replaced, the company may offer one or two weeks of pay per year of service, but otherwise, no, you’re not entitled to severance.
Stay tuned for the next video where I’ll discuss how to command the severance package while you’re still working, if you are being discriminated against by your employer.
